I came across a thread in a local forum today. The title of the thread was about jokes, having posters contribute there. I was displeased to find almost all of the jokes consists about one race making fun of another race. Although it is supposed to be taken as a joke, I personally feel that certain things should not be made light of in respects to people of other races despite them being alright with it.
I brought this up with one of my friends on msn, telling him how disgusted I am with the local people's mentality. He admitted that he too was like them. He then proceeded to give his reasons why he disliked them the way he did. I responded saying that even people of the same race have the same problems as he stated, if not worse.
It does not matter what ethnic we are, there will be good and bad people. Just because we experienced more bad than good with members of a certain race does not mean they are all like that. What is worse is that people who look down upon others. When these people judge the others, it implies that they are better, superior than the people they criticize especially stereotyping them. If they were indeed 'better' than the others, they would not need to be so 'vocal' about it to begin with. Why stoop to their level, if not lower than their level, belittling them? Especially when they have nothing to do with them in the first place.
Those of you who blatantly criticize people of other races, should stop, for it is because of people like you that contribute to the nation's immaturity and stagnancy in the development of the country. Notice how other countries despite being multi-racial are able to progress together as a nation? Notice how they call themselves by their nationality and not their race? It is with tolerance and patience that help build their countries. Although we have a long way to go, if everybody makes the first move in changing for the better, I believe we will be able to get there sooner than we think.
