Steak 300!

Sounds like an electric appliance or a Spartan diet. It is actually the name of the meal at a place no other than William's. It is a roadside operation behind the old Lim Kok Wing education premises in Taman Mayang. It has been there for a while. Tonight was my second night being there whereas the first was years ago. The first time I went there I was not that impressed having to pay a higher than usual price for hawker western food. This second time around was not so bad.

Rzeznik wanted to try out William's. Not sure where he heard it from, I was told by Ewokie that William is the brother of the dude that is running Murni in SS2. Where Rzeznik ate on Sunday night resulting in frequent trips to the toilet through out the whole night afters.

Before I left my office, I decided to do a little research on William's to see if there was any helpful information or recommendations of what to order. I came across Azuan Zahdi's blog where he mentioned that he ordered a Steak 300 (tiga ratus), supposedly the steak being 300 grams. From the picture he took, it did not look anything out of the ordinary. I assumed it was called that to specifically ask for a little bit more meat.

So us trio (with Marc) ordered the same thing since we couldn't be bothered finding out what they had, as they did not have a proper menu and the waiters there were not really too helpful in explaining what they had or if they had specialties or recommendations. So yeah the Steak 300. To start off we ordered our drinks.

I had the large watermelon juice, while Rzeznik and Marc had a large honeydew juice and Ribena juice respectively. All of our drinks had longan in it. Probably their way of justifying charging so much for the damn drinks. Apparently Ribena longan there is a popular order.

Could not be bothered to take a really nice shot of the food as it was really warm and dark there. What appeared before us was something we did not expect. The portion of the steak was HUGE. I could imagine a chunk of meat that came off the cow. The size looked like something that was fed to tigers. The steak was tender and juicy although due to its huge cut, it was resembling something more of roast beef. Still it was nice. The steak came with a separate plate of a bowl of mushroom sauce (with real mushrooms!), a quarter cob of corn, a whole baked potato with meat stuffings and onion rings. All of us had difficulty finishing it.

I mentioned how the purple colored longan looked like artificially colored... something else. Well I was kind of surprised when they told us how much our dinner cost. Could have been worse I guess. All in all it was still cheaper than just one steak at The Ship. Remembering that the steak was indeed huge, I guess it was not so bad after all. Although I am not likely to return.

Two things to point out that I already warned Rzeznik before going there. It was hot there as they did not have fans or anything to keep the place cool. Also the area as usual reeked of garbage and drain.

Wahlau damn big portion! With decent sides too. The last time I went wasn't this generous. Some improvement in the food then.

And why does the 'Ribena drink' look more like F&N's or Fanta's grape flavoured drink?

Ribena should be red... o__O

anyways, that place smells like shit and ppl go there just cause they think its cool to be there, like in Murni. Did i told you i spend 1/2 a day in the toilet after a meal at Murni?

Hi :). Yeah i agree the Steak 300 is huge and the food in williams is not bad.

But that place need a serious revamp to make it cleaner. Try going there after rain and it would be a nightmare to eat with the smell.

Greetings! Thanks for visiting my blog!

I guess maybe because the premise is free and people still keep going for the food, William sees no reason to do anything about it =\

But then again the surroundings is not really his responsibility...

well, it's unpretentious food in unpretentious settings (and relatively unpretentious prices)

if you really think about it, you're not paying extra for ambience.

with his earnings, William could easily move his operation to some other place which would be more hygienic, but I guess he's not really bothered since his establishment is still hopping with customers
